Things to Do

Midland-Odessa is not a sightseeing destination in any conventional sense, but the oil industry has left behind some genuinely interesting museums, and the flat West Texas landscape has its own strange appeal. The Permian Basin Petroleum Museum in Midland is one of the better industry museums in the country. Odessa has the meteor crater and its own eccentric Stonehenge replica.

For most visitors passing through on the way to Big Bend, Midland-Odessa is a practical stop for fuel, food, and supplies. But if you have a few hours, the museums are worth the time.
