Gruene is a former cotton-shipping settlement on the Guadalupe River, now folded into New Braunfels but still distinct enough to feel like its own village. The historic district is compact and walkable, with old commercial buildings, river outfitters, shops, restaurants, and the water tower still giving the place a clear shape.
The real anchor is Gruene Hall, built in 1878 and often described as Texas' oldest continually operating dance hall. You do not need a ticketed concert to enjoy the district, but if a good band is playing, Gruene becomes far more than a preserved streetscape.
