The Amtrak station is a small red-brick building on Depot Street, still serving the daily Vermonter on its run between Washington, DC and St Albans. It is in many ways the village's anchor — most visitors arrive on the train.
In the warmer months, the Green Mountain Railroad runs the Green Mountain Flyer, an excursion train, from the same platform north to Chester through some of the prettiest farmland in southern Vermont. The two-and-a-half-hour round trip uses restored 1930s coaches. Schedules vary by season; the railroad's website has current departures.
