Old Bennington is the historic village above modern downtown, and it is the place to wander if you came for white churches, old houses, and Revolutionary-era atmosphere. The green, Monument Avenue, and the lanes around the church can be seen slowly in under an hour.
It is not a museum set. People live in these houses, traffic still passes, and the weather does what Vermont weather does. That everyday quality keeps the district from feeling too polished.
