Harris Hill Ski Jump

Harris Hill is an Olympic-calibre ski jump in the hills above Brattleboro, opened in 1922 and still hosting international FIS-certified competitions. The hill size of 98 metres puts it in the same category as Olympic-level venues, and it hosted national championships nine times. In 2022, lighting was installed to allow night competitions.

The annual Harris Hill competition in February is one of the oldest ski jumping events in the United States and one of the more unusual sports experiences available in New England. The jump itself is visible from much of the hill above the town, a reminder that ski jumping was once a mainstream winter sport in Vermont rather than the niche discipline it has become.

A story
The Harris Hill Ski Jump has hosted national championships since 1922, and the town of Brattleboro treats the annual February competition as a civic festival. Jumpers from the hill have competed at multiple Olympics, and the event draws crowds that would seem improbable for a small Vermont town — proof that the sport, once widespread in New England, still has deep roots here.
