Saint Albans Museum

Local history museum in an 1861 schoolhouse, strong on the St. Albans Raid and railway past.

The Saint Albans Museum occupies the former Church Street Academy, a three-storey schoolhouse from 1861 just off Taylor Park. Its exhibits cover Franklin County history, the Central Vermont Railway, local military history, and the St. Albans Raid.

That raid gives the museum its sharpest hook. In October 1864, Confederate agents crossed from Canada, robbed banks in St. Albans, and fled back toward the border, turning this quiet Vermont town into an unlikely Civil War battleground.
