Mount Pisgah

Cliff-top hike above Lake Willoughby with panoramic views

Mount Pisgah rises 600 metres above Lake Willoughby on its eastern shore and offers the best views over the lake from above. The South Trail from the Route 5A trailhead is the most popular route — about 3.6 km to the summit, climbing steeply through hardwood and spruce forest before breaking out onto exposed ledges with views over the entire lake and across into Quebec.

The cliffs along the upper trail — Pulpit Rock and the South Overlook — are the highlights. From Pulpit Rock, you look almost straight down the eastern face to the water some 450 metres below. Bring water; the trail is rocky and the exposed sections offer no shade. The round trip takes 3–4 hours at a moderate pace.
