A story
The Jefferson opened in 1912 as a vaudeville house and movie palace, and has been in continuous operation longer than almost any other entertainment venue in Virginia. The Art Deco interior, with its painted ceiling and balcony seating, was preserved through a renovation in 2009 that updated the sound system without stripping the historical fabric. The venue books a mix of touring indie and Americana acts, local favourites, and the occasional national name; it is the best music room in Charlottesville and one of the better 1,000-capacity venues in the American South.
