A creative hub in a converted 19th-century textile mill off Preston Avenue, about 10 minutes' walk from the Downtown Mall. The site has studio spaces, a gallery, outdoor performance areas, and a popular Saturday market with local food and craft vendors. Entry to the park is free; gallery and event tickets vary. A good place to spend a Saturday morning before moving on to the downtown.
Ix Art Park
A story
Ix Art Park occupies the former Ix textile mill complex, which operated from the 1880s until the 1980s making clothing for the military and work wear for railroad workers. The conversion into an arts space was gradual and community-led rather than developer-driven, which gives the place a rougher, more genuine feel than the average repurposed industrial venue. The large-scale murals on the exterior walls have become landmarks in their own right — the Charlottesville mural scene is concentrated here.
