Assateague Light is the old red-and-white landmark at the southern end of Assateague Island. The short trail through the refuge makes it an easy add-on to a beach or birding day.
When the tower is open, the climb gives a fine view over Chincoteague, Assateague, marsh, and ocean. Even when it is closed, the lighthouse is worth the walk for its setting and for the way it fixes the flat coast in your memory.
