Neely Mansion

The Neely Mansion is a Victorian Queen Anne farmhouse built in 1894, one of the best-preserved 19th-century homes in King County and listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The house sits on a 15-acre preserve along the Green River, and the grounds include a heritage orchard and formal gardens that have been restored by a preservation society.

Tours of the interior run on selected weekends and give a good picture of what prosperous farming life looked like in the Green River Valley at the turn of the 20th century. The setting along the river is pleasant even without a house tour — there are trails through the property and the old orchard is particularly atmospheric in spring. It's a quiet corner of Auburn that most visitors never find.

A story
The Neelys built their farmhouse in 1894 with old-growth lumber cut from their own land — the same land that Levi Neely had homesteaded in 1853, just five years after the first permanent American settlement in the Puget Sound region.
