Chief Timothy Park occupies an island in the Snake River west of Clarkston, at a place long associated with the Nez Perce village of Alpowai. The park now has camping, river access, open lawns, and an interpretive centre that gives some context for the name and the landscape.
It is a good low-key stop if you are following the Snake River or using Clarkston as a base for Hells Canyon. The history matters as much as the picnic tables and water views.
