Juanita Beach Park

Juanita Beach Park is Kirkland's largest public beach, located at the north end of the city near the Juanita neighbourhood. The park has a sandy swimming beach popular with families in summer, a large grassy area, picnic facilities, and a boat launch. The adjacent Juanita Bay Wetlands form a separate natural area where herons, ducks, and other waterbirds can be seen from a short trail.

The wetland trail through Juanita Bay is accessible year-round and provides a pleasant contrast to the urban waterfront parks further south. In winter, the bay attracts migrating waterfowl; in summer it is good for frogs and turtles from the boardwalk sections of the trail.

Cafe Juanita, one of the Eastside's most acclaimed restaurants, is a short walk from the beach, making the combination of a swim and an excellent dinner a natural pairing for summer visitors.

A story
Juanita Bay, at the north end of Kirkland, is one of the few remaining shallow freshwater wetlands along Lake Washington's eastern shore. The bay's protected status as a wetland preserve means it was never filled or developed — an accident of geography that left a functioning marsh ecosystem within city limits.
