Timm's Hill

Timm's Hill near Ogema is the highest point in Wisconsin and a popular destination for those doing the highpoints of all 50 states. The hike is not difficult — a short, well-marked trail through forest leads to the summit, where a wooden observation tower gives views over the surrounding Northwoods.

The hill sits within Timm's Hill County Park, and the surrounding area has additional trails for hiking in summer and cross-country skiing in winter. It's about 35 miles southeast of Park Falls, a reasonable detour on any drive through Price County.

A story
At 1,951.5 feet (594.8 m), Timm's Hill is the highest point in Wisconsin — a modest summit by mountain standards, but the highest ground in a state that thinks of itself as flat. The hill is the remnant of a Precambrian bedrock dome that resisted the glaciers that ground down everything around it. Standing at the top, the forest stretches in every direction with no sign of civilization.
