Barker's Island

Barker's Island is a small peninsula jutting into Superior Harbor that functions as the city's waterfront hub. The SS Meteor museum sits here, and the marina alongside it is one of the largest freshwater marinas in the country. A paved loop trail runs around the island's perimeter, offering views across the harbor to Duluth and across the bay to the Wisconsin Point lighthouse.

The island has picnic areas, a boat launch, and a small beach. On clear days you can watch lake freighters making their way in and out of the Duluth-Superior port, one of the busiest inland ports in the world. The sunsets from the western edge of the island, with the Bong Bridge silhouetted against the sky, are worth timing a visit for.
