Wisconsin Point is a narrow sand spit that extends several miles into Lake Superior, sheltering Superior Harbor from the open lake. At its tip stands a lighthouse, and along its length a sandy beach backed by pine and birch forest. The point is one of the best spots in the region for birdwatching, particularly during spring and fall migrations when raptors, warblers, and shorebirds concentrate along the narrow strip of land.
The beach is good for swimming in summer, though the water is cold even in August. The dunes and forest behind the beach are worth exploring. Access is via a dirt road off Moccasin Mike Road — watch for the marked turn. Dogs are welcome on the beach, which makes this a local favourite for morning walks.
