Vernon County Courthouse

1880 Romanesque Revival courthouse with a clocktower

The Vernon County Courthouse, built in 1880 in the Romanesque Revival style, anchors the western edge of downtown Viroqua. The yellow-brick building, with its clocktower and steeply pitched roofs, is on the National Register of Historic Places and remains the working seat of the county government.

The lawn around the courthouse is a pleasant place to picnic, and the building is a useful landmark for orienting yourself in town — the courthouse marks one end of the historic Main Street and most of the cafes and shops are within a five-minute walk.
