Granite Peak Ski Area gives Wausau a real winter draw, using the slopes of Rib Mountain for downhill skiing and snowboarding. In a state without alpine height, the area is still one of Wisconsin's better lift-served options, with enough terrain to justify a weekend when conditions are good.
In warmer months the mountain still matters through Rib Mountain State Park, but Granite Peak itself is a winter-first POI. Check snowmaking, lift operations, and holiday crowds before building a trip around it.
