Leigh Yawkey Woodson Art Museum

The Woodson is Wausau's finest cultural institution — a small but serious art museum housed in a handsome building on the east side of downtown. The permanent collection spans American realism, decorative arts, and an outstanding body of wildlife and bird painting and sculpture built through four decades of the "Birds in Art" exhibition.

The annual "Birds in Art" show, held each September through October, draws wildlife artists from around the world and has made Wausau a destination for collectors and ornithologists alike. Admission is free on Tuesdays.

A story
Every September since 1976, the Woodson has staged "Birds in Art," the world's leading exhibition of wildlife and bird art. The show has grown from a local curiosity into a major international event: artists submit from dozens of countries and a purchase prize brings new work into the permanent collection each year.
