The Mint Bar

The Mint Bar is Wyoming's most famous saloon and one of the last places in the American West where the cowboy bar is still a working institution rather than a tourist attraction. Ranchers in from the foothills sit next to university professors and out-of-state visitors; the bar makes no distinctions. The saddle bar stools and the extraordinary collection of Western artefacts on the walls set the tone.

The bar has been at 151 North Main Street since 1907. Cold beers, simple drinks, no pretension. It gets busy on Friday evenings and during the July rodeo week, when the town is at its most festively chaotic. Go once for the atmosphere; stay for the conversation.

A story
The Mint has operated at the same address on North Main Street since 1907, surviving Prohibition, the Depression, and the slow decline of ranching towns across the West. Its collection of branding irons, saddles, and cowboy memorabilia was not assembled as decor — most of it was brought in by actual ranchers who had been drinking here for generations.
