Jardín de las Delicias

Three waterfalls in the Amboró foothills, reached on a rough road that is half the trip

A cluster of waterfalls in the foothills south-west of the city, on the edge of the Amboró massif near El Torno. Three main falls drop into pools you can swim in, the largest around forty metres, in forest thick enough that you hear them well before you see them.

Getting there is part of it. The road in is rough enough to need a 4×4 and several river crossings, which is why almost everybody comes on an organised day trip rather than driving themselves. Reckon on two and a half hours each way from Santa Cruz, longer after rain, and be aware the crossings can close entirely when the rivers are up.

Go in the dry season, May to September, when the road is passable and the water is still running. Take everything you need: there is no shop, no signal and no rescue.
