The Bandeiras Museum occupies the old city jail, built in 1761, and is one of the clearest places to understand Goiás as a frontier capital. The exhibits cover the bandeirantes, colonial rule, and the grim mechanics of imprisonment in the old building.
The architecture does half the work. Even a quick visit gives some weight to the pretty streets outside.
