Atins Kitesurfing

Windy river-mouth kitesurf spot with flat water for beginners and Atlantic waves nearby.

Atins has become a serious kitesurfing stop because the geography is almost tailor-made for it. From July to December, steady cross-onshore winds meet a wide, shallow lagoon where the PreguiƧas River reaches the sea.

Beginners use the flatter sheltered water, while stronger riders head for the river, open sea, or downwind routes. Book lessons early in the windy season, and remember that wind also makes ordinary beach lounging less comfortable.
