Folk art and tiles in a hillside estate near Tijuca

Opening Hours 11 am - 4:30 pm, Tue-Sun
Phone 4925443

A charming museum of folk art, ceramics, and decorative tiles from Northeast Brazil, set in a former country estate high in the hills near the Tijuca Forest. The grounds themselves are worth the trip — lush gardens with sculptures scattered among tropical plants and a small lake. The building was once the country retreat of industrialist Raymundo Ottoni de Castro Maya, and the collection reflects his eclectic taste.

Getting there requires a car or taxi, as there is no direct public transport. The winding road up through the forest is part of the experience.
