The Cobal do Humaitá began as a wholesale fruit-and-vegetable market and has evolved into one of the most relaxed eating-and-drinking spots in the Botafogo area. By day the stalls still sell produce and flowers; by evening the central courtyard fills up as the surrounding restaurants and bars put out tables under the open sky — pizzerias, Japanese counters, churrasco, and botecos serving cold chopp.
It is unpretentious and thoroughly local, popular with families early and a younger crowd later, with live music spilling out on weekends. A good place to eat among Cariocas rather than tourists, a short way inland from the Botafogo bayfront.
