Gloria Church, more formally Igreja de Nossa Senhora da Gloria do Outeiro, sits on a small hill above Guanabara Bay. Built in 1739, it is one of Rio's most graceful colonial churches, with an unusual double-octagon plan and a position chosen to be seen by ships entering the bay.
