Every Sunday, Praça General Osório in Ipanema fills with craft stalls selling paintings, jewellery, ceramics, leather goods and woodwork. Cariocas call it the Feira Hippie — a name that stuck from its origins in the 1960s counterculture scene. It runs roughly 9am to 6pm and draws a mix of tourists and locals browsing for souvenirs and original art.
The quality varies, but you can find genuinely good pieces among the tourist trinkets. Prices are negotiable, especially later in the day.
