The large saltwater lagoon that sits behind Ipanema and Leblon, bordered by Jardim Botanico and Gavea. Walking or cycling the 7.5 km path around its shore is one of Rio's great pleasures, especially in the late afternoon when Corcovado is silhouetted against the sky. Kiosks along the water's edge serve food and drinks. At Christmas, a giant floating tree lit with millions of lights is installed in the middle of the lagoon.
