Pedra da Gávea

Pedra da Gávea is a huge granite monolith above Rio de Janeiro, with one of the city's most dramatic summit views. The hike is strenuous, usually taking four to five hours return, and includes a short exposed rock section known as the Carrasqueira.

Go prepared with water, food, proper shoes, and a realistic sense of your fitness. Many visitors hire a guide for the route and for safety.
