Pedra do Telegrafo is a hilltop viewpoint in Rio's far western edge, reached by a short but sweaty hike above the coast. The view takes in beaches, forested slopes, and the wild end of the city where Rio starts to feel less urban.
It is best known for the cliff-edge photo illusion at the summit. Go early if you want a quieter climb, and bring water; shade is limited on the upper part of the trail.
