Zip Lines

Brotas has more zip line operators than almost anywhere in Brazil, and the terrain — a river valley flanked by rolling hills — is well suited to long, fast runs. Lines vary from short introductory cables to runs of several hundred metres crossing the valley at height. Some operators have multiple lines set up in sequence, so you can spend a morning working through progressively longer and faster descents.

The experience requires nothing beyond a basic level of fitness and a tolerance for speed. Harness, helmet, and gloves are always provided, and the minimum age and weight requirements vary slightly by operator. It is worth asking specifically about the length and height of the lines before booking, since the range across Brotas is wide. If you want the full experience, look for operators near the river valley rather than those running shorter lines on flatter ground closer to town.

A story
Some of the zip lines here run over 700 metres, crossing the river valley at height and giving you a bird's-eye view of the cerrado canopy below. The longest runs in the region are strung between hills on either side of the Jacaré-Pepira valley, and at full speed the crossing takes less than a minute.
