Catedral de Santo Antônio

The Cathedral of Saint Anthony stands at the heart of the city centre, on Praça da Estação near the main pedestrian street. Built in the early 20th century in a neo-Gothic style, it has twin towers that serve as a landmark for orientation in the downtown grid. The interior is simpler than the exterior suggests but worth a few minutes if the doors are open.

The square in front of the cathedral is one of the busiest gathering places in Juiz de Fora. Street vendors, commuters, and students from the nearby Colégio Jesuíta pass through throughout the day. It's a good vantage point for watching the mix of Belle Epoque facades and mid-century modernist buildings that characterise the city centre.
