The Banhado is a wide environmental protection area directly west of downtown São José. From the streets and cafes along its upper edge, the city drops away into open green lowland, with the mountains beyond on clear days.
It is the city's best simple view, especially near sunset. Go in daylight, stay on the settled edge, and treat it as a viewpoint rather than a wilderness walk.
