The Mother Church of Saint Anthony is Tiradentes' essential sight, a hilltop baroque church with one of the richest gilded interiors in Minas Gerais. Its rococo facade is linked to Aleijadinho, and the church preserves an 18th-century organ brought from Portugal.
The church is beautiful from the street, but the interior is the reason to pay attention. Look for the carved retables, painted ceiling, old wood floor, and the views back over town from the forecourt.
