Sao Jose Fountain

The Sao Jose Fountain is an elegant 1749 stone fountain at the edge of the historic centre. It was once part of the town's water supply, with separate basins for drinking water, animals, and washing.

It is a small stop, but a useful one: it shows how daily life in the colonial town depended on the same stonework and civic order that now look picturesque.
