Working-class barrio with strong tango tradition

A long working-class district climbing the eastern hillside of the valley, famous as the centre of Medellin's tango tradition. Carlos Gardel — the Argentine tango singer who died in a plane crash at the Medellin airport in 1935 — has a small museum here, the Casa Gardeliana, and tango bars on Calle 45 (the so-called Calle del Tango) keep his songs in constant rotation. Take a guide on a first visit.
