Chicamocha Canyon is the grand landscape north of San Gil, cut deep through the dry mountains between San Gil and Bucaramanga. The national park has viewpoints and a long cable car crossing, but many San Gil travellers know the canyon from the air, on tandem paragliding flights that launch over the ridges.
It is a day trip rather than a town sight, and the heat can be fierce. Go early if you are visiting the park itself, and check wind conditions carefully if your reason for going is paragliding.
