The cliffs rising 150 metres above the town at Canoa's southern end have become one of the most popular paragliding and hang-gliding sites on Ecuador's coast. Strong updrafts rise off the cliff face consistently from late morning, and the open beach below provides an easy landing zone. On a good day you can soar for 30 minutes or more above the Pacific, looking down at the dark sand and the curving coastline toward Bahía de Caráquez.
Several operators in town offer tandem flights with experienced pilots, making the activity accessible even without prior experience. Solo flights require certification. The best conditions are from December through May when the Pacific winds are steady. Morning flights are generally smoother than afternoon ones. Arrange through any of the surf shops in town or ask at your accommodation.
