Rio Muchacho is a working organic farm in the hills a few kilometres inland from Canoa, running day tours and multi-day homestays that offer a genuine look at sustainable agriculture in coastal Ecuador. The farm grows cacao, fruit, and vegetables using traditional and ecological methods, and tours take you through the production process from planting through to chocolate-making.
The farm is one of the more educational and unusual stops on Ecuador's coast — not a tourist show farm but a real operation that has been running the same way for decades. Day trips from Canoa are easy to arrange, either with the farm directly or through accommodation in town. Horse riding, nature walks, and cooking sessions can be added. If you have children with you, the farm is particularly good — muddy, hands-on, and genuinely interesting.
