Government House

Victorian residence of the Governor of the Falkland Islands

Address Ross Road West, Stanley, Falkland Islands

The official residence of the Governor of the Falkland Islands since the mid-19th century, a comfortable Victorian building set in lawns at the western edge of Stanley. The white-painted house with its conservatory and rose garden could equally be in the English Home Counties.

The building was briefly the headquarters of the Argentine occupation forces in April–June 1982 before being retaken by British troops. Not normally open to the public, but visible from the road and a regular photo stop for visitors. The grounds are sometimes opened on community open days.
