Historic Dockyard

Restored 19th-century dockyard, now a heritage site and museum complex

Address Ross Road West, Stanley, Falkland Islands

The original 19th-century Royal Navy dockyard that served the islands' early maritime industry — whaling, sealing, and the great age of sail. The cluster of buildings includes the cooperage, the smithy, restored cottages and the Falkland Islands Museum.

Walking the dockyard gives a good sense of Stanley's beginnings: shipbuilders and seal-hunters drawn by the safe anchorage of Stanley Harbour, in turn replaced by Royal Navy stations as the British presence consolidated. Several of the buildings now house exhibits run by the National Trust of the Falkland Islands.
