Mabaruma Airport

Mabaruma Airport is the small airstrip that connects the town to the rest of Guyana — and for most visitors it is the way in and out. Trans Guyana Airways operates scheduled flights from Georgetown's Ogle Airport, covering the 250-kilometre journey in under an hour. Without the flight, reaching Mabaruma from the coast involves a multi-day boat journey up the Barima River, or a gruelling overland route that is not reliably passable.

The airport itself is modest — a single runway carved from the forest plateau — but it is the lifeline of the entire Barima-Waini region. Flights are small and weight limits are strict; book early and pack light.
