A collection of pre-Inca petroglyphs carved into large rocks on the hillsides below Ayabaca, depicting geometric patterns, animals, and human figures whose meaning remains uncertain. The site is accessible by mototaxi from town, and the staff at the Museo de Ayabaca can point you to a local guide who knows where the main panels are.
The surrounding countryside — rolling green hills with scattered farmsteads and distant views toward Ecuador — makes the walk worthwhile even if rock art is not your primary interest. The petroglyphs are not as dramatic as major sites elsewhere in Peru, but they are genuinely old and rarely visited by foreign travelers.
