Gruta de Huagapo, near Palcamayo, is the area's strongest natural sight. A stream runs out of the cave mouth, and rock paintings near the entrance add a human layer before the passage disappears into the dark.
It is about 27 km from Tarma, so treat it as a half-day trip rather than a quick town sight. Bring a light jacket and shoes that can handle damp ground.
