Grytviken Church is a small white Norwegian church shipped in prefabricated sections and completed in 1913. It has served as a church, library, cinema, food store, and temporary resting place for Shackleton's coffin.
Restored in the 1990s, it still looks almost improbable against the raw harbour landscape. Step inside if it is open; the plain timber interior says a lot about the whaling community that tried to make a town here.
