Piedra Pintada

Nineteen-metre sandstone outcrop in a rural park southeast of Artigas.

Piedra Pintada is a strange isolated mass of sandstone, about 17 km southeast of Artigas, with a reddish-green surface coloured by moss and weathering. The surrounding Parque Congreso de Abril has picnic and camping facilities, so the visit feels more like a countryside outing than a quick roadside photo.

Go with your own vehicle or an arranged taxi. Public transport is not useful for this one.
