Bordj Badji Mokhtar Airport

The airstrip sits about 5 km northwest of the town and 9 km from the Mali border, which makes it the most useful entry and exit point if you would rather not drive a thousand kilometres of empty desert. Flights from Adrar and occasionally Algiers are run by Air Algérie and Tassili Airlines, though the schedule is light and cancellations are common.

For overland travellers stuck between border closures, the airport is often the only way out — worth knowing about before you commit to the drive south. The terminal is a single building with the most basic of facilities; do not expect food, a working ATM, or reliable Wi-Fi.

A story
The airport's IATA code is BMW — an accidental gift to anyone trying to remember it.
