Lalla Setti Plateau

The Lalla Setti plateau rises about three hundred metres above the medina to the south, named after a female saint whose modest shrine sits on the cliff edge. A cable car runs up from the city, and at the top there is a small esplanade, a few cafes serving mint tea, and the famous panorama: the whole of Tlemcen laid out below, the minarets of the medina, the ruins of Mansourah to the west, and on a clear day the snow-capped Atlas mountains in the distance.

The plateau gets busy at weekends — families come up for the view, the picnic, and to ride the cable car. Come at sunset for the best light. The walk down (about an hour, partly on a marked path) is a pleasant way to get back to the medina rather than reusing the cable car.
