Serra Cauo Caiongombe is part of the low mountain and hill country that breaks up Iona's eastern and central desert. It is not a single postcard viewpoint so much as a landmark in a landscape of ridges, gravel, and hard light.
The hills are useful for orientation and atmosphere. Around them, the park stops feeling like an endless flat desert and becomes more textured, with slopes and shadows that are especially beautiful in the early morning or late afternoon.
