Getting There

Djougou is on the main road between Cotonou and the northern Benin cities of Natitingou and Kandi. Bush taxis and minibuses run throughout the day from Parakou to the southeast (about two hours) and from Natitingou to the north (about two hours). From Cotonou, the journey is around six hours by direct vehicle.

There is a small airstrip at Djougou (IATA: DJA) but scheduled commercial service is minimal or absent; check current status before relying on it. Most visitors arrive by road.

The roads in northern Benin are variable — the main highway is paved and generally passable, but some lateral roads become difficult in wet season (June through September). A four-wheel drive vehicle is useful if you plan to visit villages off the main road; zemidjan (motorbike taxis) handle most local routes regardless of season.
